GBWHS History
The Green Bay & Western Historical Society was founded in 2006 by
a dedicated group of individuals looking to once again preserve the
history of the Green Bay & Western, Ahnapee & Western, and Fox River
Valley Railroads.
The Beginnings
There was a general sense of loss when the Soo Line Historical &
Technical Society deactivated the Green Bay & Western Preservation
Group in December of 2005 due to many factors. At that time the idea
was being circulated on the various internet discussion groups, that
a separate organization was needed.
Robert Hainstock, former President of the GBWHS circulated the
idea of forming this separate organization and right away several
other individuals stepped up to offer assistance in the form of
monetary donations, locations for meetings, and assistance in filing
the necessary State and Federal papers for incorporation and 501(c)3
Non profit status.
